Ludwig
was a king who loved music, ravishing beauty, art and modern technology.
He was ahead of his time in many ways - some historians even
say that he predicted the coming of mobile telephones and
constructed Bavaria’s first electrically-powered hang-out: the Venus
Grotto in Linderhof Castle! This is where he listened to the music of
the greatest popular music star of his time, Richard Wagner. Ludwig was an
avid fan of Wagner's music during his entire life, and even helped to
spread his genius by becoming the musician's financial patron.
In
the Venus Grotto, the young King also dreamt of flying machines and
other groundbreaking innovations like power plants and central heating,
of record players and elevators. He wanted his people to
benefit from the rapid technical advances of his time, but also from
poetry, art, music and architecture.
And
of course, he dreamt of love!
